Staying Put

Lately I have been feeling quite a bit of stress.  We are moving so that says it all.  The other day Billy was telling me that he really needs to play XBox.  I told him that he really didn’t, but he kept telling me every five minutes or so.  Finally I said to him I really need to get away.  No daddy, no Billy and no Baden, just mommy.  He looked at me wide-eyed and said but I need a mother.  Well of course I can’t go anywhere now.  Maybe a trip to Target will do me good.  But for now I will hang around after all I am needed and that makes me feel good.

A day at the park

It is officially spring and the boys want to get out and run.  Yesterday was a pretty good day in the 50’s, but we were so busy that we decided to take the boys to the park today.  We didn’t last too long. It was 37 degrees with a wind, but the boys had a great time running, jumping and climbing.

I love it

I have had my Kindle for a week now and I can honestly say that I love it.  I wasn’t sure how I would like it because I am old school.  I love books and I wasn’t sure I would like reading on a screen.  It is just  like a book.  It is lightweight and is about the size of a DVD case.  The screen is sharp and has no glare.  I can highlight and add notes as I am reading which comes in handy since I belong to a book club.  It has a dictionary which is nice because if there is a word I am not sure of, I can just put the cursor next to the word and the definition is there.  I love the ease of downloading books or first chapters of books that I might want to read.  The cost of the books range from $9.99 for newer books to free for classics like Jane Austen.  First chapters of books are downloaded for free.   There is a text to speech feature, but the voice sounds like Stephen Hawking and I would rather read the words then listen to them.   It can play MP3’s which is pretty neat.  It has Sprint’s 3G network so I can look at the Kindle Book Store for more books. I can also subscribe to newspapers, magazines or blogs.  It is a neat device and probably one of the best birthday presents I have gotten.  Thanks, Bill!

A random post

We really haven’t done much, but I feel the need to post.  Billy amuses us every day.  The other day he told me that God would not be happy if you forgot to flush the toilet.  I am not sure about this, but I am sure the person that comes in behind would not be too happy.  It was so random.  Baden, it turns out, loves to dip his food.  It all started when my parents were here and my dad gave him a chip with salsa on it. He loved it.  Now he is all about the sauce.  He will eventually eat the chip or tater tot, but only after he licks the sauce off.  Baden also gets very upset if something is taken away from him.  Yesterday he threw himself face first onto the floor.  He had never done that before and I hope he figured out he shouldn’t do it again.  Noting happened, but he looked kind of surprised at his own reaction.  I did get my Kindle today!  It finally came. I was so excited.  I have been reading most of the afternoon and it’s a perfect day to do it — it’s raining.  I love it.  Jessica texted to tell us that there is a Five Guys (a great burger joint) in Bountiful.  They have the best fries and burgers around.  Now Utah can experience what we have been loving for the last few years.  Again another random tidbit.  Random things for a random post.

PS: I will post on the Kindle later. My own review coming soon.

Happy Birthday to Me

YAY! It’s my birthday.  We celebrated early since Bill is in Texas this week.  We saw a fun, chick flick movie and Bill was a good sport and sat through it — Confessions of a Shopaholic.  I also got a gift I am super excited about, a Kindle.  It’s an eletronic book.  Books can be downloaded in 30 seconds and I will be ready to read them.  I also got cards and calls from family and friends which is always the best part of the day.  Well, I really like the cake, too.  🙂

PreSchool Drop Out

Some mornings Billy is ready to go to school and most mornings he wants to stay home.  Today was one of those mornings. He didn’t want to go to school because he didn’t like the kids in his class and he didn’t have fun.  Now I know this is not true. He talks about school and his friends all the time.  He told me I am having a bad day and I just can’t go to school.  I asked him if he was just going to drop out and he said yes. I don’t want to go to school ever again.  At first this comment made me a little sad because I have always loved school and I want Billy to enjoy school, too. Then I thought okay let’s run with this.  I asked Billy how are you going to get a job if you don’t go to school? You can barely write your name and you read a little bit, how are you going to support yourself because if you drop out then you have to get a job.  He looked at me and said I will just live with you. Good thinking.  Then he wanted to give me a hug so I said no, I quit giving and taking hugs. No hugs for me.  He looked at me with shock on his face and said alright I won’t drop out. I will go to school.  Why didn’t I think of this before we were really late for school? All it took was a ban on hugs.

Let It Snow

Finally after so many near hits and many misses, we got a snow storm. It started snowing Sunday and into Monday morning.  I love to watch the snow fall. It is so beautiful.  Whenever there is a snowflake in the air, Billy wants to play in the snow.  This was Baden’s first time to play in the snow. It was so much fun to see the boys get all bundled up and ready to go out the door to play.  We had a great time playing in the snow with lots of laughter and rosy cheeks.

So far so good

Baden has been a nomad for most of his young life.  He began his nights sleeping in our room and slept in our room for several months.  Then he moved to a big crib and he slept in the “guest room”. Our intention was to put both the boys in the guest room and move the guest room to the Billy’s room which is smaller.   Then we got orders to move so Baden never got moved until Tuesday night.  Bill bought him a bed.  It fits right underneath of Billy’s loft bed and it works out great.  We weren’t sure how he would like his bed, but he seems to like it.  He climbs on it and gets a big smile on his face when I ask him if that’s his bed.  The first night he laid down and he slept throughout the night without getting up.  Last night,  Bill walked him into his room and he climbed up into bed on his own.  So for now, he seems to like it.  I just hope it continues.

Smurf Alert

img_0926Bill took the boys out for some errands yesterday and they returned with blue frosted cookies. Billy was so excited as he got to pick them out.  Baden was excited too because as soon as he got home he wanted a cookie.  We were able to deter them until after dinner and each of the boys got a cookie.  Billy ended up with a blue tongue and teeth. No big deal.  Baden, on the other hand, was a mess.  He had turned into a Smurf. He had blue hands, mouth, blue frosting up his nose, in his ears, and smeared all over his hair.  He went straight to the bath and unfortunately for Baden blue cookies are not in his future.

Spongebob Nation

I know a lot of you don’t like Spongebob Squarepants and don’t understand it’s appeal.  We here in Dunowland love Spongebob.  Bill started it all.  He started watching since it’s inception on Nickelodeon in 1999.  Jessica used to watch it so it was a good excuse to watch, too.  Well now both our boys love Spongebob.  Billy started singing the theme song at around 18 months by singing, “Bob, Bob, Bob” and various parts of the song.  Now Baden at almost the same age has started doing it too.  If he hears the theme song, he will run into the family room so he can sing along.  It doesn’t hold his attention for too long, but that theme song is liked the Piped Piper.  I have to say that  Bill and I can actually sit through several episodes of Spongebob without going crazy. I don’t know many that can.  My favorite show is Seinfeld so I can relate almost anything back to a Seinfeld episode.  Well now I am finding I can do the same for a Spongebob episode.  It’s fun to watch it with the boys and laugh with them.  Spongebob gets Dunowland’s stamp of approval.
