When Bill and I were engaged we were on our way from Oklahoma to Utah so I could meet his family. There is a lot of nothing on the 12 hour drive so we started discussing baby names. Bill said that if we ever had a boy he would be named William because that is a family name and then the middle name would be my father’s name. It sounded good to me and we stuck with it. Well, Billy told me the other day that when he becomes a baby again (he hasn’t quite figured out that he won’t be a baby again) that he wants to be named Baden. I said but you are Billy. That’s your name and that’s you. You are named after daddy, both grandpas and all of your great-grandpas. I thought maybe that would help him with his name. It didn’t. He has brought it up a couple of times. I asked him if you could have another name what would it be and he said Baden. I said well what would Baden’s name be and he said Billy. This kind of reminds me of when I was his age and I wanted blue eyes like my mom. She was afraid that I might try to color my eyes with a crayon. I didn’t. I just colored the wall. I can’t imagine Billy having any other name. It suits him to a “T”. I hope that I can help him understand how important his name is and that one day he will learn to love it.
Isn’t it just so interesting how the names fit the child. We had 4 names picked out for our children; Spencer Duane, Aaron David, Jacob Emanuel and Megan Lee. Spencer was definately not an Aaron or a Jacob and Aaron was not a Jacob. I guess it is a good this that Megan was a Megan and Jacob was a Jacob or I am sure they would feel so awkward walking around with somebody else’s name!
I didn’t like my first name until I became an adult!!! No one likes being called after a Mule :{ I always corrected them by saying my name is spelled with an E not an I. I have gone by my middle name since I was 5 years old and came home from school telling my mom I would no longer be Frances Kay just KAY. At least I had a middle name I liked :).
Actually I guess my name suits me. Just as your brothers names suit them and your name suits you!!!
Funny! We actually brought home Dallin from the hospital with a different name after succumbing to peer pressure, but it bothered me so bad I wouldn’t even call him that name and was finally at peace when Mike went back and changed it (luckily we were within the window and didn’t have to actually do a name change form). Isaac was also called Seth for a couple of days because so many people told me Isaac Isom was too many “I”s. I’m so glad that I came to my senses on both accounts, I really feel like a name is important and certain name really suit certain people. Oh my what a long comment…sorry 🙂
